RobertParticipantMy Electrocompaniet pre-amplifier doesn’t give me this option. And I can’t say it’s a loss. I like the sounds my favourite bands make

MattmanParticipantIt kinda depends on what you’re talking about… As far as my guitar goes, I definitely keep the bass higher on my amp. For CD’s and stuff I still keep the bass higher, but only by a little bit. I think too much of either is a bad thing…
I marked ‘bass’ though, on the poll, just cause I do favor it slightly..

umascowParticipanttreble all the way. pavement’s song license name is "treble kicker".
also see nirvana’s album "in utero" inside the sleeve it tells you how to set the bass and the treble– bass should be set at 2 o’clock and the treble at 5 o’clock. this is a rule we should all live by. it makes music so much more plesurable. i cant stand it when i get in somone’s car and the bass and treble are at 0 o’clock. this is a pet peeve of mineOctober 2, 2001 at 9:51 am #65661
SGParticipantIn terms of a guitar amp,I would do the same as a stereo amp,up the treble and down the bass, treble equals clarity to me but I don`t over do it,sometimes it gets too tinny.
My headphones are really bass heavy so I have to cut the bass down anyway.
I like the Nirvana suggestion, thanks to Uma`s Cow for mentioning that.
I know Pavement had that treble kicker tag in the early days, they did`nt have a bass player either.
In terms of bands without a bass player:Spinanes,Sleater Kinney,Jon Spencer, early Modest Mouse(early recordings had just Isaac and Jeremiah),Beat Happening, and sometimes Yo La Tengo(when Georgia plays guitar and James plays drums) and Silkworm(when Tim plays guitar instead of bass) all proved that it can be done.October 2, 2001 at 10:18 am #65662
sappyParticipanti normally have the bass at full (5:00), i think it brings out the bass well. then also i have the treble up a bit more than 12:00, this is so the bass doesnt totally drown out the treble.
i never used to really notice the bass in music when i was younger though, so i reckon i make up for it by having loud bass now..or maybe i just enjoy my eardrums getting a beating…October 2, 2001 at 1:07 pm #65663
jasperParticipantIn my universe, it’s a serious sin to turn the bass or treble away from its lovely neutral position. That’s where it belongs. Keep it there. Listen to the music the way it was intended by the musician who recorded the music.
That’s also why I despise the WayTooMuchBass function every Discman has. I hate it. I really do. But I’m weird, so there you go.

SGParticipantWith my guitar I would put the treble on full and the bass on half.
On my reciever I put the treble on half and bass on minus 2.October 10, 2001 at 3:43 pm #65665

I use that "In Utero" setup most of the time….it’s fitting
I only turn the bass up more when a song has either an incredibly cool bass line and/or drum
