I’m supposed to get a summer job, so I figured I’d start with places I like. Thought ya’ll’d appreciate this:

From: Vintage Vinyl Employment Application; Page 3

Tell us what we really need to know

The previous information is interesting,, in some cases crucial. However anybody can have a list of previous jobs; only a few people know the names of Captain Beefharts’s guitar players, the number o record labels for which Thelonious Monk recorded, or the title of any singles by Bobby Rush. We need to know what special knowlege about music is lying dormant in your head, waiting for a customer to ask you about it. To that end, we’ve come up with a few questions of our own.

    1. How did you fall in love with music?

    2. Name the last three albums which mattered to you.

    3. You know the drift. You’re stranded for life on a desert island conviently with electricity and a hot audio system. Which album do you want to bring with you and why?

    4. What’s so cool about Vintage Vinyl, anyway? Why do you want to work here?

    5. What can you brind to Vintage Vinyl that we don’t already have? How would you make us better?

    6. Tell us what we don’t already know that you really want us to know.

At least they’re serious. But I was really hoping they’d ask "Do you have a pair of hornrimmed glasses?" or "How many sweaters and vintage tshirts do you own?" Just like I swear the local coffee shops requires you to be vegatarian with at least four piercings before you get hired.

    No, St. Louis area.

I suppose I should actually fill the thing out, even though this would be like Sophie working at a purse shop.

"And when I win the lottery, gonna buy all the girls on my block
Silver-plated six shooters and a quart of the finest highland scotch
‘Cause when I win the lottery, the rights will shake their heads and say that
God is good but surely works in mysterious ways
    When I win the lottery"

When I win the lottery, I’m going to live out all my Rob Gordan fantasies by opening Hear You Me records and more. 8)
