AnnastefkaParticipantHey Rich and anyone else who might know, I would like to have IM again, the grandparents can pop up a line while looking at the web cam like "Hey Juan, put on some pants" My daughter can im friends. I have a friend in Puerto Rico and we can talk for much less money on IM but I had a weird problem, in a college town it seems guys would get my profile and find out I am a Mom with children and near 40 and they would start writing and asking if I wanted to meet for "No questions asked sex with a horney young stud who is well hung" Or send im’s like "Looking for a happily married women who just wants have a 20 year old again" Well, that was not going to fly with the children using the computer. I am not sure how to correct the problem, perhaps sign up for IM again under another name?

FlyingCloudParticipantsorry to hear you’ve been "harrassed" that way, Annastefka, it’s just so annoying. But that kind of crap is widespread on the net, there was the same kind of problem on the Dinosaur Jr mailing list, for example. I don’t think that kind of messages are really personalized.
ban and ignore the senders, technically. and change your identity if that doesn’t help, maybe change the messenger. but don’t let them get you down!I never had that kind of problem on AIM, in contrast to ICQ.
yahoo messenger is still missing in my messenger collection, though…June 22, 2004 at 6:30 am #103164
AnnastefkaParticipantYes, thanks FC, Rich showed me how to press ignore, I just had not spent alot of time finding out how to use the IM, just like when you first come here to Freak Scene, it takes a while before you get it, unless you have been doing computer stuff for awhile. I have Yahoo messenger up and running.

AnthonyParticipantum… only accept incoming messages from people in your buddy list
easy as thatuse secure-im

AnnastefkaParticipantGosh, Anthony, the problem started with me being either too nice or something, when telemarketers call I always feel sort of sorry for them and try to give them an explanation as to why their services are not needed in our house, the same seemed to be true of the first IM’s I was getting. Usually it was innocent like someone would write, " I see you like to garden, what do you like to grow" Well, if you took the bait ( like I did ) then I ended up with some guy saying, after a few very nice garden exchanges, that he would like to see me naked. Well, then again I would feel sorry for a man that was interacting sexually with a computer person. I should have said "Get a life" and hit the ignore button, (I just found out where that was) instead I just cancelled the service. Now we have it back up but I only have limited times in which I can just sit and chat. When I come here it is usually read, post, and run. Now I know about about the buddy list that helps.
Just today the children told me new people are trying to "get in" and "chat" that is weird, how can I stop those kind of "POP UP PEOPLE"June 22, 2004 at 3:39 pm #103167
AnthonyParticipantpop up blockers = google toolbar (fantastic little contraption) http://toolbar.google.com/”>http://toolbar.google.com/
don’t have those chat programs set to "automatically start and sign in" upon windows start.
change the chat username that is getting abused to something new and only allow incoming from the buddy list.
sign in as invisible, make your profile "not searchable"

AnnastefkaParticipantHey, Anthony thanks, all of that sounds like the ticket.
I had fun IM’ing with Rich the other day. He has a microphone thing so he does not have to type, I am a little slow tech wise so I am not sure what that is called. Juan wanted to get one for our house so that Grandparents could hear the children talking, but I thought better. I don’t want them to hear me yelling "Knock it off" or "Stop fighting" which is something I have to do a lot.
We got to see Rich shave his head and hear him talk to an old girlfriend on the phone, it was better than reality t v. My friend Catriona came by for a visit and coined a new phrase "Dino Buddy" thats what you all are to me, I wish we had emoticon that cried little tears of happiness but……

RobertParticipantI must say that I think you webcam folks are pretty prave. The thought of having a webcam conversation with someone fairly unknown to me, scares the shit out of me. I don’t think I would’ve been able to utter a single sensible word, let alone join in on an interesting conversation. On the other hand, Rich as a reality tv star sounds pretty interesting
June 23, 2004 at 1:21 pm #103170
RichParticipantYour damn right it does, everyone wants to know what im up to
June 23, 2004 at 6:33 pm #103171
AnnastefkaParticipantRobert, yes, just think the world is full of people fairly unknown to me but then again, I think as a writer, I am very interested in people and their stories. I have found that Freak Sceners seem so far to very nice. I am sure there are some real idiots but overall I think it is music that attracts more of an educated, loving group of people, hey maybe I am wrong. When J came to the 40 Watt, I had a party and we had 4 people, whom I had never met in my life, spend the night in my house. In the morning around 7:30 both my husband and I had to leave the house, I told my new "Dino Buddies" to help themselves to coffe and food and fruit and to just leave the door unlocked when they left. I told them to please sleep in, We have things you know like all people do, we have some paintings that are worth half the price of our house but I have always had a trusting, loving attitude about life.
Now if this was a Guns and Roses fan site instead of Freak Scene then
June 23, 2004 at 6:51 pm #103172
RobertParticipantOh yes, it’s not that I don’t think that people are interesting or nice. It’s just the thought of talking "face to face," so to speak, to someone I don’t really know. Chatting on yahoo messenger or in the dino chatroom on soulseek is great, but the whole webcam deal scares me
I guess I’m shy when it comes to these things.
Also, bigon the Guns and Roses fansite vs Freakscene
Couldn’t agree more.

RichParticipantI happen to love GNR
June 26, 2004 at 8:24 pm #103174
AnnastefkaParticipantUh,oh I dressed up as Axel Rose once for Halloween, when they were in their glory, I don’t shave under my arms, so I have "Little Fury Things" underthere and I guess that tells you about my breast size back then, having a few children has changed all of that. I have never worn makeup. I MUST find a photo of me in my AXLE ROSE get up. I had all of the girlies hitting on me that night.
My friend Lisa is here, and she told me that is a picture of Benicio Del Toro, Rich is that true? I didn’t see that film but I had the biggest crush on his character in "TRAFFIC".
