I cant seem to get the link to work for the last time I asked about mods for pedals, but….does anyone know if I would be able to make a vol/pan pedal (like the Ernie Ball one) out of a Dunlop Volume pedal? I know it has to be stereo, and perhaps a switch, does anyone have one of these pedals? yeah. RJ

I don’t know if u can do what you said, but check out http://www.guitarstart.net, and go to the FAQ section, where there is loadsa info from crazy technical guys on how to build wierd pedals and stuff.

Hey, I was looking at my pedal today and thought about how just a regular volume pedal works, pretty siple, two jacks, wires, and a pot, right? Ok, The pot is grooved as is the "pole" that it rolls on. If I put grooves on the other side of the "pole," take the peice that holds it in place off, (small curved piece of white plastic) and put the same stuff, (a second volume pedal) into the casing with the pots in two directions, one would go up in volume while the other goes down. Add one more jack on the Amp side for the pan effect, and wire it the same way as the other one, and it would be hooked for two amps to one guitar.
The only problem that I have encountered, is how to put the other pot in the pedal and keep it stable, after I figure that out, im going to need the parts.
I also need to figure out how to put grooves in the pole.

Hey RJ, that’d probably work, as long as you can make sure to get the right value on the pot…

As for the grooved pot idea, I think it’d be much easier to do like my Wah pedal has it and put a little gear deal around the pot’s shaft.

However, if you want the volume pedal to be louder and you’re good with a soldering iron, it’d probably work well with the Muffer, volume boost circuit (top of the page). I built one out of parts I found at Radio Shack, less than $10 as I recall… I never put mine in a box though, and you have to mail order the stomp switches, because RatShack doesn’t sell DPDT stomp switches… Mine just spends its days in the top of my closet, waiting to be finished on day, but it works well. It’s based on the volume circuit of the Big Muff…

Here’s the site that came from.

…and here’s one I like even better.

Hope it helps…

Mattmania…. the pot thing, thats what I was talking about. Its geared in both my Vol and Wah. Geared/grooved…whatever.

Ive found that with this pedal (being the Dunlop that it is) will have to be taken apart completely and some grinding will have to take place. This pedal wont shut of the volume 100%. It takes it down about 90% and then hits the base of the pedal. I could go buy a Vol./pan pedal, (infact theres one on Ebay right now for $35) but I want the satisfaction of making one. Plus, this way I can sand the black off of it and paint it PURPLE!!! Plus, I never use the thing as a volume pedal anyways, so why not?Id like for it to be deeper than it is because the little pole that turns the pot shaft isnt long enough, maybe make a new one?

woo hoo!

I remembered that, before my Zoom 505 got broked, I had bought a FP02 expression pedal, (like FP01 but smaller). I took it apart seeing as ill never use it again, and the pot inside it is almost perfect for the job. The gears are a different size of course, but I was going to have to cut out the gears on the post anyways. So as soon as I can find a jack, Ill slap it togethter and see how it works, tweek it a little then after I get it setup right, ill see if im still wanting to put in the device you were talking about Matt. Hey, if you want it to get quieter before it hits the bottom of the pedal, you might try an audio-taper pot… They’re non-linear in their resistance, the kind used in stereos, where it’s quiet for most of the turn, but has a noticibly large volume increase toward the max volume end…

I’m not sure how well it will work, but pots are cheap, so it might be worth trying…
