JebusParticipantYes, I did see the PEZ dispensers….great stuff. I’ve got the Simpsons PEZ collection and it’s quite the conversation piece.
I’ve been a KISS fan since I was five years old and my older brother got me "Rock n’ Roll Over" for Christmas. My parents were pissed and I was never the same.
June 28, 2001 at 4:29 pm #66445
SGParticipantHey Jebus-
I noticed you mentioned Trace by Son Volt;I was talking about band rumors earlier and forgot to mention Son Volt;did you hear that rumor that on trace the female backing vocals were done by Tanya Tucker? My guess it`s not, problably Farrar`s wife.Did you ever hear about this before?June 30, 2001 at 6:05 pm #66446

Swervedriver-Mezcal Head
Tom Waits-Rain Dogs
Idaho-This Way OutJune 30, 2001 at 7:08 pm #66448
AGAPParticipantHey salamiguy,
Mexcal Head by swervedriver is amazing,
Duress, Harry &Maggie, Blowin Cool…WOW.
Raise is my fav release by Swervedriver, god Son of Mustang Ford kills me every time. Rave Down will be on my top 5 today…actually now You should definitely check out Ejector Seat Reservation if you haven’t already…continues to shock me every time I hear the title song….in a really good way Their last release though had only a couple of almost decent songs, only my opinion though…just not sonic enuf!!! Hopefully they get back to the studio soon and TURN IT UP

SGParticipantYeah Swervedriver`s cool.I guess I like Mezcal Head because there`s a bull on the cover!
Mezcal was my first swervedriver album I bought and usually the first album you buy by an artists is usually your fav,at least that`s my theory;but not always, bug was my 3rd dino jr. I bought and that`s my fav.
Raise is awesome too,Son of mustang ford should make someones lists of great 90`s rock tunes, maybe we should do that here someday!
The most recent SD release you mentioned;99th dream did kinda suck;I think they thought they were radiohead, not to say radiohead sucks its just SD does`nt do a very good interpretation of them;"these times" was a good tune from that album and maybe a couple more but it`s problably one of the dullest records of the 90`s!
Drummer Jez I heard used to be a security guard in a nudist colony.strange day job!
I should have mentioned that in band rumors the other day;that`s here in the open topic section,I got no reply`s,maybe people did`nt read it or did`nt like what I had to say, please tell me what you think. If you don`t like me metioning music stories I won`t mention them again.
back to topic, here`s more fav albums:
PJ Harvey-Dry
Fugazi-13 songs
Sleater Kinney-Dig Me Out
Shudder To Think-Pony Express Record
Built To Spill-Perfect from now on(is it just me or does Doug sound like Carly Simon on the the first minute of "made up dreams"July 1, 2001 at 12:49 pm #66450
AGAPParticipantHey salamiguy,
Your right about These Times, I picked up that single…very cool song but still only a couple almost decent tunes on that disc.
Jez working as a security guard in a nudist colony…wow I actually don’t doubt that at all.
Have you checked out the book he is writing, he has about three chapters up for everyone to read. Edit comes to mind, but some pretty good stories…none beat the Piss Bottle story though…ahhhh You know sometimes topics need time, other times they don’t work. I liked the topic just haven’t put anything in yet…will soon I promise. Pretty much anything goes in Open Topic as long as its not about ABBA or something…j/k You may also be right about nobody reading it, sometimes people just click on the newest item and go from there..who knows. We have some amazing music fans here so hopefully people will check it out…keep an eye on it you never know.
Allison
ps tried to use Duress as a sleep aid…not a good plan too sonic…oh well

humble joeParticipantOk as you may have figured, I’m sort of still discovering a lot of cool stuff (every post has been a question). Here’s my all time favs thus far:
Pavement- Wowee Zowee (easily the best Pavement one)
The Beatles- White Album
Blur- Blur (perhaps most influential- got me down the path of US Alternative)
Dinosaur Jr- Living all over me
Graham Coxon- Crow sits on blood tree
Pixies- Surfer Rosa
REM- Reckoning
Gang of Four- Entertainment
Super Furry Animals- Radiator
Belle and Sebastian- Boy with the Arab strapmore later!
September 6, 2001 at 3:28 pm #66454
SGParticipantIt`s strange how tastes differ on bands,I think Wowee Zowee is Pavement`s worst album, but it`s all in people`s view of what makes an album great or not, that`s my opinion on it,someone mentioned that Sonic Youth`s Jet Set Trash is one of their favs,I think that that`s the worst album too,so we can`t all agree on stuff sometimes.
Beatles-White Album-I agree on that, first heard it when I was 13,have`nt listened to it in over 10 years.
REM-Reckoning-I agree on that,Rockville is my fav song from that. Most people would say Murmer is thier best.
Pixies-Surfer Rosa-the album that got Steve Albini notice as a producer,it`s pretty brilliant.
Super Furry Animals-I bought "fuzzy logic" recently.have`nt listened to it yet, have you heard it?
Gang Of 4-they were cool, very influential on Big Black and Fugazi and alot of other bands. Can`t find any of their albums here!it will pop up someday.
Belle And Sebastian-the album from last year is good-"Fold your hands child…"they sound like it was recorded 30 years ago,I think of them as being a cross between Burt Bacharach and the Velvet Underground.
You`re living all over me-I picked Bug instead because YLAOM was`nt available at the time when I got into Dinosaur,I finally did get it a few years ago,I had the Fossils comp. so I already knew 3 songs from it.September 6, 2001 at 4:19 pm #66455

humble joeParticipantMy word! How many bands and albums do you know?!!!!
I haven’t heard of almost any of them. Do you work in a record shop or something? Like the guy in High Fidelity?Yeah Fuzzy Logic is SFAs first album, pretty cool but not the best. Entertainment by Gang of Four is definitely worth finding.

SGParticipantI`ve tried to get a job in a music store,no luck.
I just read alot, listen to the radio(not so much in recent years)and try to learn about music,my strong points is in rock, jazz, blues;I do like some country music(not that commercial crap) and folk and sometimes classical music.
