Biggest disappointment of the last couple of years that I remember buying myself is Beck’s "Midnite Vultures", have never listened that in full…..
Was also disappointed by Sonic Youth’s "Experimental Jet Set…" (very) and their "NYC Ghosts and Flowers" (slightly)
Agree with you on the VU reunion.
Pavement’s ‘Wowee Zowee’ has got ‘Rattled by the rush’ on it, which in my opinion is one of the best songs they ever did, the rest isn’t that spectacular indeed….as is the case with their ‘Terror Twilight’ album (that had ‘Major Leagues’ as outstanding track, and the rest…hmmm….)
….and I’m probably not intelligent enough to understand the 3 latest albums of Radiohead…

I guess dimpfelmoser`s thread on the test of time got me thinking about albums that I`m not too crazy about;there are some good tunes on these albums but overall, not too impressive.

Juliana Hatfield-Only Everything
I get halfway through this and turn it off.

Archers Of Loaf-All The Nation`s Airports
some great tunes on it but mostly mediocre;the production is`nt too good either.

Teenage Fanclub-13
pretty friggin dull.

Velvet Underground-live 1993
this was actually released as a double too,a good example that old bands should`nt reunite.Reed`s voice is gone,Cale could`nt save the day either.

Red Red Meat-There`s A Star Above The Manger
They let their experimentation run wild and failed.

Loop-A Gilded Eternity
You can shoegaze only so much.

Palace Music-Viva Last Blues
Despite a beautiful production job by Steve Albini, the songs don`t hold up for me,except for a few.

Sebadoh-Harmacy
A few good tunes and a ton of filler.

Pavement-Wowee Zowee
A big disapointment after 2 brilliant albums.

Belly-King
Star was great, then they did this and it did`nt sound like the same band.

Heartworms-
I don`t remember the title,it`s Archie from Velocity Girl;weak and boring material.

Liz Phair-Whitechocolatespaceegg
some of it reminds me of sheryl crow.

Chopper 1
Don Fleming`s production could`nt help this band.If you see it don`t buy it.

John Parish/PJ Harvey-Dance Hall At Louse Point
pretty dull.

Lotion-Full Iassic
Their Nobody`s Cool album is good, but this sucks.

Curve-Come Clean
they`ve done better.

Girls Against Boys-Freak On Ica
major label hell.

Lazy-No Assembly Required
their name says it all.

Reverend Horton Heat-Space Heater
He`s done better.

Slowdive-Just For A Day
when shoegazer stuff is boring,it can be bad.

That`s enough for now;see if you can come up with some albums you don`t like,or disagree with the ones I`ve mentioned.

I agree that Slowdive/Just for a Day isn’t all that great! Souvlaki, in my opinion, is their best album. Aren’t they now Mojave 3? I really only know of them through my fiance, he drives me crazy with them!

Smashing Pumpkins: Machina-The Machines of God……some nice tracks, the rest is just filler in my opinion, the drums are especially disappointing when you know how well Jimmy Chamberlin can play…..

Weezer: Green Album…..10 monotonous songs, boring solos, after hearing 10 secs of each song you can guess what’s gonna be the rest

Shooty’s Groove: Hypnosis…..lacks the punch of J.I.V.E

Blur: 13……don’t know exactly why, but I don’t like this one….

RHCP: Californication…..some really nice tracks, but the album in itself is not as good as the older ones, I think there should me more of that funky touch….

Keeblin-Yeah,Mojave 3 is made up of ex-Slowdive members. My fav Slowdive album is Souvlaki as well.
den buck-Rattled By The Rush is a good tune and a few others but Pavement lost it after Crooked Rain I think.GBV as well lost it after Alien Lanes, even worse when Tobin Sprout and some of the other regulars left.
Radiohead is a good question, why do people and critics think they`re demi gods? They`re just a band!

I must say that I love blurs 13 and the album before that to.

well I agreee totally with the weezer greenalbum…It takes about to times then you are sick and tired of it…bring back pinkerton style! But it seems that the album has gone well…so I guess that the next one is going to sound the same.

I agree with the Weezer comment too. Just does not seem like the same band! Guess you can tell Weezer was not a one man show and that Matt Sharpe was a pretty vital piece in the ‘original weezer sound’. I am sure it is still better than 90% of the other shit out there right now but after their 2 previous releases it is average @ best.
btw – I loved the way the bass drum sounds on pinkerton! specifically on Tired of Sex.

Midnight Vultures was VERY dull! Mutations was pretty good though. Beck is still one of the most entertaining shows I have been to.
OT – Right before the release of mutations Beck had an art show in new york. J came out and played a 15 minute solo piece and thurston moore did his thing too. Still looking for a copy of that!!!!

I concur with you guys about the RHCP + that NSync album

I disagree on: Weezer and Beck – good albums, y’all crazy.

Agree on: RHCP – not their best work.

Pumpkins – Machina I – as big a Pumpkins fan as I am, it is a total filler album. Machina II was like 40 times better. Chamberlains drumming was weak (except for Raindrops + Sunshowers).

Jeremiah, glad someone finally concurred that the latest N’Sync release LACKED THE FURY OF EARLIER RELEASES… how man times did I have to say that before I got a WTF thrown my way?
