rosaParticipantHi~
I couldn’t come up with ten; really weren’t a lot of new releases that appealed to me this year. But here’s my short list:
The Black Crowes- Lions
Tori Amos- Strange Little Girls
Missy Elliott- Miss E…So Addictive
Dolly Parton- Little Sparrow
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds- No More Shall We Part
Mighty Blue Kings- Alive in the Cityand finally….if I may quote the editors at CDNow
<blockquote><font>quote
Quote:Although the stellar country and bluegrass soundtrack O Brother, Where Art Thou? was released in December 2000, it made such a surprisingly tremendous impact on music in 2001, we thought better than to rule it out based on a small technicality.O Brother takes the cake.
There are also some I suspect are good but haven’t had a chance to hear, like John Frusciante’s "To Record Only Water", Buddy Guy’s "Sweet Tea", and of course the Tenacious D album.
In accordance with what Salami said, there may still be one or two good releases in December (though I’m not aware of any at this time)…so I may come back once more to edit.
take care

buckingham rabbitParticipanti don’t think i bought 10 cds that were new releases this whole year, and i bought a lot of cds (what does that say?).
anyway, here is what i think i bought, in no particular order:
m. ward — end of amnesia
graeme downes — hammers and anvils
the clean — getaway
steve malkmus + jicks — steve malkmus
the chills — secret box
pernice brothers — the world won’t endDecember 1, 2001 at 1:25 pm #66512
SGParticipantI think I bought about 20 cd`s from this year.
Rosa-I heard one song from Buddy Guy`s Sweet Tea,sounded pretty good,he`s one of my fav bluesmen, one of the first I listened to,still have an old live album from 74 that I listen to sometimes.Check out I Left My Blues In San Fransisco from 67,that`s a cool album.December 1, 2001 at 1:45 pm #66513
HalfmanParticipantRosa,
Nice call on Dolly and Cave. Those were my two faves, hands down. Dolly’s cover of "Shine" is incredibile. "God is in the House" by Cave is great also. It has some many different themes within the space of one song, wow. Used it for a sociology class to great effect.
BTS-Ancient Melodies is good also.
Pennywise-Land of the Free? is good, but they released it just before 9/11. Heard they caught a lot of crap from KROQ in LA over a single being played. Pennywise, being the good hearted sorts, stopped touring for the moment in honor. They are great.Henry Rollins-Nice I do not like it at all. Enough said.
