FogLightParticipantAt about noon yesterday I still had no idea whether or not I wanted to drive 2 hours north to Milwaukee to see the J show at Shank Hall . It was a “school nightâ€

AGAPParticipantThanks for the review FogLight, sounds like it was a good idea to make the trip
Jaron, he ended up with a signed CD…gotta love those results

everyonelovesjaronParticipantThat’s true Allison. I’d rather hear Drawerings live over having a signed CD, but I’d take signed CD over being an asshole.
BTW, FogLight, how many people, if any, DID yell for Feel The Pain. I wonder if J.’d even play it.
October 22, 2002 at 5:29 pm #62958
rambleonParticipantwhy’s that … has he never played feel the pain acoustically before ???
October 22, 2002 at 5:42 pm #62959
everyonelovesjaronParticipantHe hasn’t played FTP at all since, like, 1997 when he went from "Dinosaur Jr." to "J. Mascis & The Fog."

rambleonParticipantoh right … hadn’t realized … actually, hadn’t thought about it …
did you ask him to play it when he played the black cat club this summer ??
were you there ?
October 22, 2002 at 6:45 pm #62961
everyonelovesjaronParticipantWas there, awesome show. He didn’t take requests though. I wouldn’t have requested it anyway, since it really wouldn’t have been polite, you know, and there would’ve been other stuff I’d rather hear.
October 22, 2002 at 6:52 pm #62962
rambleonParticipantpolite !!! now i don’t know for sure, b/c i obviously don’t know you … so please don’t get me wrong here … but seeing as how jasper wrote that you were in the habit of pissing people off i just guessed you would be a vocal kind of guy when it came to concert-going and requesting songs and that sort of thing …
October 22, 2002 at 9:24 pm #62963
everyonelovesjaronParticipantIt would depend on my mood. If I actually wanted to hear the song, I’d request it. But to do it just to be a pain, would require me being in a "I’m trying to be funny but no one will take it that way" mood.
I requested Zwan (Corgan’s new band) to play Disarm during one of their shows and got alot of people angry, so I don’t know if I’d request J. play FTP.

nickburnzParticipanti was at shank, i didnt hear any requests for "feel the pain"… forgot bout that one, no one requested "blowing it" either which is a good one…. he did play the wagon, but did not follow with puke and cry
aww i forgot about "i live for that look" and "quicksand", noone requested that either, this was definately one of the best shows ive been to in a while…
J has so many good songs. . .

rosaParticipantI know this isn’t the ‘opinions’ forum but I think Feel The Pain would sound really, really weird acoustically, especially without a rhythm section. Ditto for Freakscene. The few times that I’ve seen J acoustic, people have shrieked for Freakscene and I’ve never understood why. I can’t even imagine how one would arrange it, if there were nothing to arrange it around. Preposition, dangling, like solo strings.
When I think of FTP I immediately think of the drums. When I think of Freakscene I immediately think of the bass.
Maybe my ear picks sounds apart too much, or something. Or maybe they really would just sound incomplete solo.
October 23, 2002 at 12:12 am #62966
nickburnzParticipantwell j did use a delay pedal for his rythm parts, so he played the rythm(?sp) and looped it and played his solo parts over that. i wanna go to the next show hehe… but its in portland

SGParticipantThanks for the review FL
Yeah,J does`nt seem to play The Post that often, cool he played it for you October 23, 2002 at 2:16 am #62968
everyonelovesjaronParticipantHad J. called for requests either of the times I saw him, I’d yell "Drawerings" or "Feel The Pain" [just to be an ass] instead of "Sell me a CD."
Course, that’s just me.

m402ParticipantHey!!
I was at the Shank Hall show. I think I was standing almost right behind you, FogLight b/c I remember you going off and buying two cds during the show.
Yes it was a great show. I am a fairly new Dinosaur Jr. fan, but I love J’s music and was amazed by his performance. This was actually the first time I had seen him perform. I couldn’t believe that there were that few people there. So many people missing out!! I really like "Out There" but it was totally ok that it wasn’t played because he played so many others that I am already familiar with. After the show I had the privelege of thanking J and shaking his hand. He was very sincere in returning my thanks and looked me in the eye the entire time I had his attention. It was truly an honor being there and definitely worth blowing off my nite class. And next time J comes around, I will be there…
