Mercury Rev’s gig yesterday evening in Amsterdam was truly amazing! The hall in the Melkweg was totally packed, the sound was near-perfect, the lightshow was stunningly beautiful, and the music…. well, Mercury Rev is one of the best live bands I know, they keep the spirit of their songs intact although they play them much more rocking and electric than on their albums. Highlight of the evening ‘Opus 40’, which started as itself, and ended in a beautiful psychedelic guitar/feedback-drone (complete with stroboscopic lights….)

And well, after the gig I saw this rather tall guy with not that much hair aka Hansione, we went over to the Paradiso, where For Stars were playing, an excellent band as well, check out their ‘We are all beautiful people’ album, the sound a little like a cross between Eels and Grandaddy, with a touch of Neil Youngish vocals…..

And somehow we ended up drinking beer at the upstairs bar in Paradiso, with the new Ryan Adams album as background-music, a GREAT night!!!!!!
