I’ve been to a handfull of awesome concerts in my weird little life, here I’ll just throw in the last thing that set my mind adrift in a huge way. I spent something like 10 days in Prague, Czech republic this summer, and one night me and a czech friend of mine ended up at this small little jazz club. It didn’t look much to the world and I never expected to enjoy it as much as I did. It had been a really warm day and I totally felt like having a cool drink in the bar. Wanting to get something really good and refreshing I took a long look at their drink list and finally made up my mind to go with a bitches brew (mainly cuz it sounded like a kool name for a drink I guess). Then the bartender told me they had no ice Dang that drink sucked w/o the ice, so I was about to suggest that we got the hell outta there b4 long. Soon enough this trio from Prague started playing though – tenor sax, drums, bass – and christ they were insanely hot, wiped away all track of time and place right from the first note. Playing like their life depended on it doesn’t even begin to describe what was going on at all, I literally had to remind myself to breath during some of the solos. Seemed like everyone in the audience were just sitting there in awe, all smiles, and couldn’t believe their senses. Had to return there a few times more b4 flying back to boring old sweden, and every night there was a different group from czech playing, young musicians all of them. Unbelievably, they were all as, or almost as, fantastic as that first trio. It seems like that country is overcrowded with cool jazz cats, and that the wickedest of them can be found playing at aghaRTA on a regular basis. If any of you guys end up in Prague for whatever reason, you just gotta pay that place a visit. Their program can be found at arta.cz/aghaprog.htm btw. Oh, and screw the drinks, get a beer instead, they’re really good and ridiculously cheap (weird how a pop or a mineral water is way more expensive ). It’s a really cool city too, so I’ll be going back there for sure.

Cheers, Max
