Hey Bates,

I think that, as long as the artist agrees & is not getting ripped off, it’s no big deal. Though hearing "Baba O’Reilly" in an SUV commercial rather turns my stomach, I can’t really fault the car company if The Who agreed to it. The only beef I have is when they use the work of artists who are dead and gone– that Jimi Hendrix song in the Pontiac commercial, for example.

Is it just me, or are most of these recognizable songs popping up in car commercials?? Mazda recently used "Big Red Rocket of Love" by the Reverend Horton Heat; I’ve also heard songs by Stone Temple Pilots, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and the Rolling Stones used to promote cars. Damn, nothing says "good, reliable vehicle" like "Walking on the Sun" by Smash Mouth…er…

p.s. never heard any Mascis material in ads, that I can recall.
