J Mascis’ music video for “Every Morning” is a quirky, comedic take on a hippie commune, directed by Danny Jelinek. Mascis plays Space Angel, the leader of a religious cult, while Fred Armisen portrays a corporate villain trying to take over. The video features Mascis strumming his acoustic guitar in a forest, surrounded by followers (including James Mercer of The Shins) who drink strange Kool-Aid and carry magic eggs. Armisen, as a businessman from CompuWave Systems, undermines Mascis with corporate tactics, revealing embarrassing facts about him. The video ends with Mascis, defeated, trying but failing to smash his guitar, only finding solace in a trippy guitar solo.
